The yields behind Bize-Leroy’s Domaine d’Auvenay 2007 Mazis-Chambertin were so tiny as to be more typical of her 2008s, and the concentration of flavors is correspondingly intense yet in no way exaggerated or inimical to elegance. Sweetly ripe fresh plum, blackberry, lily, and heliotrope perfume; soy- and red meat juice-like savor; and iodine, salt, peat, and crushed stone mineral layering combine for an amazingly absorbing, kaleidoscopic performance that leaves my mouth resonating. It will be exciting to revisit in 20 years.
