The 2005 Chambertin Grand Cru from Dugat-Py is a triumph, opening in the glass with a bouquet of plum, red cherry, cassis, licorice, anise, rose petal and savory bass notes of grilled meat. On the palate, the wine is silky, cool and controlled, displaying incredible textural finesse, bottomless depth and a long, sapid and penetrating finish. Though few will have the chance to taste it, this wine exemplifies the maxim that Chambertin is Gevrey's greatest grand cru, not because it produces its most powerful wine, but because it produces its most elegant.
