There are 400 cases of the brilliant 2003 Cabernet Sauvignon, which was tasted several months after bottling. This broodingly dense opaque purple-colored wine offers an extraordinary nose of blueberries, smoky oak, chocolate, and licorice. Powerful, rich, and concentrated, with sweet tannin, a thick, juicy style, and excellent delineation, this large-scaled Cabernet should hit its peak in 4-5 years, and last through 2020. Following the troubled 2001 vintage and the disruptive and litigious departure of former winemakers Helen Turley and John Wetlaufer, things appear to be back on track at Bryant. Philippe Melka now heads up the team led by Don Bryant, and plans are underway to double the size of this estate from 7 to 14 acres. All the wines are fermented in open top fermenters, and are bottled 18-19 months after the harvest. |
