相信沒有人會反對hâteau Latour是波爾多左岸的極致典範。葡萄園擁有全波爾多最深厚的礫石層，加上礫石層下的密實黏土，這樣極端的土壤組合造就了全波爾多最雄壯威武的紅酒。如同其酒標上的圖騰，從17世紀末Ségur家族的經營開始，Château Latour就開始釀製渾厚耐久型的紅酒；歷經300多年來一直是剛猛如獅子、堅實如堡壘的左岸紅酒之最。
在14世紀百年戰爭時期，英軍在此地河岸邊建築了防禦的堡壘，叫做La Tour en Saint-Mambert。當時的堡壘在百年戰爭之後不復存在，但1620年代時又在莊園裡建造了一座圓柱形塔樓做為信鴿舍；它留存至今並成為本酒莊的象徵。做為葡萄酒莊，Château Latour開始展露頭角要歸功於十八世紀時被稱為「葡萄酒王子」而名滿天下的Ségur侯爵(Nicolas-Alexandre, marquis de Ségur; 1695–1755)，他當時除了本酒莊之外，還同時擁有Château Lafite、Château Mouton、Château Calon Ségur等名園；在他的家族手上將本酒莊經營得聲譽卓著，得以在1855年頂級酒莊分級獲得第一級酒莊的地位，確立了它在波爾多最頂尖葡萄酒之列的地位。
在1963年時，Château Latour離開了Ségur家族的手中，被賣出四分之三的股份給英國Harveys of Bristol公司以及Pearson集團。1993年時法國精品集團老闆 François Pinault先生以8600萬英磅的代價買下Château Latour，本酒莊終於又回到了法國人的懷抱。
Château Latour擁有78頃的葡萄園，其中47公頃是環繞城堡週圍的最精華園區“Enclos”，一軍酒的原料葡萄完全出自本園。此園的土壤有全波爾多礫石最大、最深厚的礫石層，而礫石層下則是黏土和泥灰質土，這樣極端的土壤讓葡萄長出特別多的單寧，讓Latour酒質呈現一貫的堅實硬骨風格；另外Latour是五大酒莊中第一家以不鏽鋼發酵槽取代舊式橡木桶發酵槽（1964年），將釀酒工程現代化的酒莊。Château Latour不論好壞年份都有相當高的品質，也都需要長期陳年才能展現它的醇美。

Composed of 95.2% Cabernet Sauvignon, 4.4% Merlot and 0.4% Petit Verdot, the 2013 Latour offers an open-knit, fragrant nose of licorice, sandalwood, rose petals and cigar box over a core of Black Forest cake, stewed plums, mulberries and redcurrant jelly, plus a waft of cast-iron pan. The elegantly styled, medium-bodied palate (13% alcohol) fills the mouth with intense red and black berry preserves layers, framed by evolved, soft-textured tannins and well-knit freshness, finishing long and spicy. This vintage does not have the power and backbone of an outstanding vintage of Latour, but it is aging gracefully and, still possessing a lot of discernible fruit with plenty of tertiary pizazz, is absolutely delicious to drink right now. This sweet-spot stage is likely to continue for another 5-7 years, before the wine plateaus at a maturity peak and holds for a further 15+ years.
