A touch more compact and austere than the Chorey-lès-Beaune that preceded it, the 2019 Marsannay Les Sampagny exhibits aromas of sweet berry fruit, burning embers, rich soil tones and spices. Medium-bodied, lively and chalky, it was quite tightly wound when I tasted it, but I suspect it may round out with further élevage.
