一位波爾多Saint-Emilion的酒商Jean-Luc Thunevin在1989年購置了一小塊0.6公頃的葡萄園，這個葡萄園就在著名的Pavie- Macquin酒莊旁，於是他和太太開始釀造他們自己的酒，於是誕生了Château Valandraud。夫婦兩人親身投入種植和釀造的事務，他們的葡萄園一切都是人工照料，產品量少質精，被視為「車庫酒莊」的先驅。
從第一個年份1991年上市開始，Château Valandraud紅酒就大受好評因而供不應求；1994年份甚至在1995年倫敦的預購價格還高過Chateau Latour和Chateau Margaux，完全是超級黑馬的氣勢！
產品的成功讓Jean-Luc Thunevin有能力陸續又買下了一些Saint-Emilion的葡萄園，目前大約擁有10公頃的葡萄園，不過年產量還是只有1.5到2萬瓶左右。其誘人的特色是帶有很成熟的果香、豐厚飽滿的酒體，高單寧含量卻又不會顯得硬澀，可說是享樂主義風格。經過20年的努力，在2012年Valandraud升級成為Saint-Emilion一等頂級酒莊，當年的黑馬也已經成為經典！
事實上Jean-Luc被很多人稱為「壞孩子(bad boy」，因為他常常會做一些顛覆傳統、不按牌理出牌的事，例如說他在專門生產紅酒的Saint-Emilion也種白品種釀白酒！在2000年他把毅然把自己的葡萄園中的2公頃改種Sauvignon Blanc 和Semillion和Sauvignon Gris，2003年開始釀製他的第一款白酒；目前為止，Valandraud和Monbousquet是Saint-Emilion唯二生產白酒的酒莊。

Tasted blind at the Valandraud vertical at the property, the 1996 Valandraud has quite an ostentatious bouquet with copious menthol-tinged red fruit, light peppermint notes - all atypical for this growing season. It might by a little heady but it is feels nicely focused. The palate is medium-bodied with an impressive weight in the mouth, lightly spiced red berry fruit, quite ferrous, almost Pomerol-like with a focused brown spice-tinged finish that lingers nicely in the mouth. It loses some of its harmony towards the finish, becomes loose and lacks the depth of grip of the 1995 Valandraud. There are attractive, light tobacco and white pepper notes lingering on the aftertaste. Drink over the next 4-5 years.
